Share Your Dallas Moments Photo Contest
The Contest is open to legal residents of Texas who are eighteen (18) years or older at the time of entry. Void where prohibited by law. Employees, temporary employees, independent contractors and interns of The Dallas Morning News, A.H. Belo Corporation, Belo Corp., UPICKEM, and each of their respective subsidiaries, parents, partners, other Contest sponsors, advertising and promotional agencies (hereinafter "Sponsors") and the immediate family members of each, and any persons living with, any such employees are not eligible to enter or win prizes. The term “immediate family members” includes spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.

HOW TO ENTER: Contestants may enter online at www.dallasnews.com/125th, sign in and follow the instructions to upload one (1) or more photos associated with Dallas history and a caption explaining how the events in the photo impacted the Participant’s life. Sponsor will accept photos in black and white or color. All digital entries should be at the highest resolution possible up to a maximum of 200MB. Sponsor will accept the formats of jpeg, tiff, gif and png. Photos will not post automatically but will be reviewed and approved in no more than 72 hours from submission.
Each photo must be assigned by the Contestant to one of five topic categories: arts/culture, transportation/business, news/politics, sports/leisure, and health/education. Photos will be disqualified if they do not fit the theme of the Share Your Dallas Moments Photo Contest or if they are in violation of Contest rules or dallasnews.com terms of service. EACH PHOTO SUBMISSION MUST BE AN AUTHENTIC, ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN BY CONTESTANT OR THE CONTESTANT MUST OWN THE COPYRIGHT IN THE PHOTOGRAPH SUBMITTED. If your photo contains likenesses of anyone other than yourself, you must obtain releases from such parties granting the Sponsor the right to display their likenesses on dallasnews.com prior to your submission.
Entries will not be accepted via mail nor email. The official method of entry will be through the www.dallasnews.com/125th site.
Multiple entries are allowed, and each photo entered will be eligible for all prizes. However, each Contestant is limited to winning a maximum of one (1) random-drawing prize and two (2) topical and/or grand prizes.
JUDGING CRITERIA: Winners will be selected by a panel of judges from The Dallas Morning News. Submissions will be judged based on how well the photo 1) represents the category, 2) the title and description, except for the 25 randomly selected winners. Equal weight will be given to each criterion. The ratings scale for each criterion will range from one (1) to ten (10), with ten (10) being the best score.
DEADLINES: The Contest begins at 8:00 a.m. CST on Sunday, April 11, 2010, and ends at 11:59 p.m. CST on Monday, October 4, 2010. Submissions will be taken throughout the contest period for the 25weekly random drawings. The 25 weekly random drawings will be held each Monday during the 25-week promotion.
Administrator's computer is the official time-keeping device for the Contest. Contestants entering close to the posted deadline do so with this information in mind.
No responsibility is assumed by Sponsor or Administrator for lost, late, misdirected, or illegible entries or for any computer, online, telephone or technical malfunctions that may occur. Entries will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet Access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. All entries become the property of Sponsors. Potential winners may be requested to provide Sponsor and Administrator with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with the winning entry.
ODDS OF WINNING: Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
PRIZES:
The following prize(s) will be awarded:
•twenty-five (25) prizes in the amount of $250 each
•five (5) topical prizes in the amount of $1,000 eacH
•one (1) third-place grand prize in the amount of $2,500 plus being honored at the 125th Anniversary event be held in October, 2010
•one (1) second-place grand prize in the amount of $5,000 plus being honored at the 125th Anniversary event to be held in October, 2010
•one (1) first-place grand prize in the amount of $7,500 plus being honored at the 125th Anniversary event to be held October 2010
Prizes are non-transferable; substitutions may not be requested. By participating in the Contest and accepting a prize, contestants and winners will be deemed to have agreed to these Rules. Winners are responsible for all applicable federal, state, and local income and any other taxes, fees and surcharges. An IRS Form 1099 will be issued for all prizes with a value in excess of $600. Sponsors reserve the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
WINNER SELECTION:
The winner for the twenty-five (25) weekly random drawings will be selected by the Administrator on Friday of each week during the promotion (April 16, April 23, April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21, May 28, June 4, June 11, June 18, June 25, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, August 13, August 20, August 27, September 3, September 10, September 10, September 17, September 24, October 4). The winner’s name will be published in the Main section of The Dallas Morning News the Sunday following each drawing date, except for the final week which will publish on Wednesday October 6.
A panel of judges from The Dallas Morning News will review and select the winners of the five (5) topical prizes and three (3) grand prizes based on the Judging Criteria set forth above by a panel of three (3) judges who will each have a single vote. Judging will be conducted between September 27 and October 8. Tied entries will be re-judged using the same criteria stated above. Winners will be notified the week of October 11 and informed of the date of the anniversary event where their photos may be displayed. In order to have the photography displayed at the event the winner will need to sign an official release for The Dallas Morning News to display the photos in all promotional material.
The winners of the three (3) grand prizes will be honored at the 125th Anniversary event in October, 2010, if they are able to attend. You do not have to be present in order to win. Winners will be responsible for their own travel expenses to Dallas, Texas, to attend the gala.
USE OF CONTEST INFORMATION: Notwithstanding any contrary provision in any Sponsor's or Administrator's respective privacy policies, Contestants grant to Sponsors, and Sponsors reserve, the right to use any and all information related to the Contest, including information and photos provided by Contestants in connection with the Contest, for marketing purposes or any other purpose, unless prohibited by law. Contestants may be required to sign a release, which grants to Sponsors the right to use and publish their proper name and state of residence online or in any other media in connection with the Contest. By accepting a prize, winner(s) may be required to sign a release that grants permission to Sponsors to use his or her name, photograph, likeness, voice, prize information and/or biographical information for publicity and promotional purposes without future compensation unless prohibited by law. By receipt of any prize, winner agrees to release and hold harmless Sponsors, Administrators, and each of their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents (collectively, the "Released Parties") from and against any claim or cause of action, including, but not limited to, personal injury, death, or damage to or loss of property, arising out of participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize.
CONDUCT: By entering the Contest, you agree to be bound by these Official Rules. The Official Rules will be posted at www.dallasnews.com/125th throughout the Contest. Sponsors reserve the right at their sole discretion to disqualify any individual they find to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Web site; or to be acting in violation of the Official Rules. You agree that in your participation in the Contest you will not use obscene, libelous or slanderous language, or language that infringes upon a third party's trademark, trade name or other intellectual property right or right of privacy. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sponsors and Administrator and each of their respective subsidiaries, parents, partners, or other Contest sponsors, officers, consultants, agents, and employees against and from all claims, damages liabilities, costs and expenses asserted by third parties alleging that the Contest includes obscenity, libel, slander, or infringes upon the third party's intellectual property or privacy rights, as a direct result of your actions in connection with the Contest. You further agree to not knowingly damage or cause interruption of the Contest or to prevent others' participation in the Contest. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY A PARTICIPANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE BELO WEB SITES OR TO UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PARTICIPANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Winners assume liability for losses or injuries caused or claimed to be caused by participating in the Contest, or by the acceptance, possession, use of, or failure to receive any prize. The Released Parties are not responsible for (i) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest; (ii) any lost, late, illegible, or incomplete entries; or (iii) for any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions in the Contest. Sponsors and Administrator assume no responsibility for an error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction of authorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsors and Administrator are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of e-mail or players on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or combination thereof, including injury or damage to Contestants or to any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in the Contest. If the Contest is not capable of running as planned for any reason, including legal restrictions, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsors or Administrator that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Sponsor reserve the right to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest.
PRIVACY: Information collected from entrants is subject to Sponsor's privacy policy and UPICKEM's privacy policy.
RULES / WINNERS LIST: Official Rules and the names of the winners may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped #10 envelope to: The Dallas Morning News – My Dallas Moments Photo Contest, 508 Young Street, Dallas, TX 75202. Indicate " My Dallas Moments Photo Contest Rules Request" or " My Dallas Moments Photo Contest Winners List" on the outside of the envelope as applicable. Limit one (1) request per envelope. The request must include the name of the Contest. Winners List will be available 5 days after the winners are confirmed.
